Theodorus Clutius, noted pharmacist and supervisor of the garden of Leiden University, Netherlands, amassed an impressive collection of botanical watercolors. The watercolors are highly nuanced and document nature in a marvellous way. This plant was adapted as embroidery with the same delicacy and artistic rendering. (16th century)
